The Lagos State government has directed its Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board to begin operations for the 2024 Hajj and Ramadan Umrah, facilitating form sales to interested pilgrims.
The State aims to build on previous successes, emphasizing improved service delivery for pilgrims.
The Governor Of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive aims to provide ample time for intending pilgrims to complete necessary requirements within the timeframe set by Saudi Arabian authorities.
Pilgrims are required to possess a valid international passport, make an initial deposit of Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira, undergo medical screening, and fulfill other prerequisites.
The Chairman/CEO of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Barr. Zhikrullah Kunle Hassan, had earlier announced the initial deposit, which remains in effect.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has allocated 950,000 Hajj seats to Nigeria for the 2024 exercise, with NAHCON designating 3,517 slots for Lagos State.
Various other states, including Kwara, Katsina, Bauchi, Ogun, Kano and other states in Nigeria have also commenced registration and collection of deposits from intending pilgrims, detailing procedures and deposit amounts.
In response to fluctuating exchange rates, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, in collaboration with state bodies, has set the minimum deposit for the 2024 Hajj at N4.5 million.
This decision, non-negotiable, is aimed at providing a realistic basis for cost negotiations and ensuring smooth preparations for pilgrims.
