President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, stated that the newly appointed Accountant General emerged after a rigorous process.
Onanuga disclosed that a committee earlier conducted a process through three stages of written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
He further disclosed that “the selection committee later chose Mr Ogunjimi through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service.”
The Presidential aide added that the selection process underscores “President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions.”
The appointment takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin will retire.
Mr Ogunjimi’s appointment, approved on March 5th, takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin retires.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and urged him to discharge his duties in his service to Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the service of the nation
Ogunjimi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.
He also obtained a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.
He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
It would be recalled that Mr Ogunjimi’s appointment was first named as Madehin’s successor last December.
