Nigeria Inaugurates Media Team To Educate On Malnutrition

Nigerian children and lactating mothers, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with Nutrition International and other Stakeholders has inaugurated the National Food and Nutrition Media Team in Abuja, the Nation’s capital.

The Media inauguration team is expected to educate, inform and disseminate information appropriately to curb the menace of diseases caused by malnutrition on lactating mothers and children in Nigeria.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Lydia Shehu, said the ministry is committed to ensuring that the media effectively communicates the purpose of the project till the desired result is achieved.

Mrs Shehu added that the Federal Government of Nigeria has demonstrated commitment towards addressing malnutrition in the County and further tasked them to communicate appropriately to eradicate malnutrition in the Country.

“On this regard, the Federal Executive Council approved the national multi-sectoral plan on Nutrition in the national development plan to enhance nutrition security both at National and sub- national”

The Country Director to Nigeria for Nutrition International, Dr Osita Okonkwo, also emphasised on the need for effective media awareness on the need for good Nutrition in Nigeria and pledged support for the media team.

“Our aim is to transform the lives of Vulnerable Nigerians especially Women and adolescent Girls and Children by improving their nutrition status.”

” I assured the media team that we will give the best to ensure that the target people benefit from the program at all level.” Dr Okonkwo said.

Other donor partners include World Bank, UNICEF, USAID.
