Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr Dele Alake, says Nigeria is a favorable destination for lithium exploration and extraction as it possesses one of the highest percentage of Lithium Content Globally.

The minister made the disclosure in Doha, at a meeting with Qatari businessmen, on the sidelines of the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Arab nation.

The minister was responding to enquiries on the quality of Nigerian lithium by the Emir of the State of Qatar, Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Directed by President Tinubu to address the forum, Dr. Alake explained that Nigeria’s lithium conveniently appears close to the surface, facilitating extraction processes and making it more accessible for investors.

According to him, this factor enhances the economic viability of lithium mining in Nigeria and positions the country as a significant player in the international lithium market.

Additionally, Dr. Alake underscored the multiple appeals for Nigeria’s lithium due to its association with other valuable minerals such as nickel in composites.

The Minister said that these associated minerals further enrich the investment landscape, making Nigeria’s lithium an attractive proposition for potential investors.

At a larger Nigerian- Qatari Business Forum, Dr. Alake shared the vision of collaboration between the two nations, particularly in the field of solid minerals.

The Minister’s comprehensive response highlighted Nigeria’s strategic advantages, providing a compelling case for investment in the country’s lithium sector.

Dr. Alake said the Nigerian government welcomes the keen interest shown by Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani and looks forward to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships in the exploration and development of Nigeria’s abundant solid minerals
