Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani says the focus is on reimagining the country’s Artificial Intelligence strategy and harnessing tech talents to drive growth.

On the sidelines of the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, he says the application of technology across key sectors of the economy is revolutionising how people live and do business.

Speaking on the overall theme of the World Economic Forum 2024; “Rebuilding Trust”  he said this “speaks to our reality at home in Nigeria and it clearly resonates with my experience in government for the last 4 months.”

“We have the opportunity as a nation and under this present administration to chart a path forward, even as we contribute to finding solutions to collective global challenges.

“To do so, however, we must find a way to have conversations that are constructive and build trust over time. It won’t happen overnight.

“This relationship and partnership during this forum will form the backbone of our digital economy. The reason for this is that we understand that diversification of our economy can only happen through the application of technology,” Tijani explained.

He said, “As leaders and citizens, we must hold ourselves accountable, through very realistic measures, to the promises that we make to ourselves.”

According to the Minister, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his wisdom, has started this by ensuring that his ministers sign performance bonds, and it is clear we will be judged by our performance.

Dr Tijani affirmed that Nigeria’s Tech workforce has a lot to offer globally.

“Also we have global challenges that we are part of but there are opportunities that technology has to offer to solve those challenges and with those opportunities is the gap that exists which is the workforce for technology.

“And with the workforce in Nigeria that 60% of our population is between 18 to 25 years. It means Nigeria can fill the gap. We are raising talents who can join the technical workforce that will solve some of these global problems.” He added
