Nigeria Launches Egg Production Scheme
Speaking at the inauguration in Lokoja, on Monday, the National Poultry Desk Officer in the Department of Animal and Husbandry Services of the ministry, Mrs Vivian Ibe, said the essence of the scheme was to strengthen egg production, its marketing and the utilisation capacity of poultry products in the country.
Ibe noted that the five-year programme was targeted at boosting economic development, income, livestock production and increasing job opportunities.
According to her, the scheme would produce about 500,000 table eggs daily for local consumption, export and processing into egg powder for use in the confectionery and pharmaceutical industry.
On his part, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr David Apeh, commended the Federal Government on the initiative.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Sani Abdulganiyu, he urged the farmers in the state to utilise the opportunity, noting that the project would upscale food production and consequently, improve the nation’s economy.
