The Armed Forces of Nigeria have established a platform for the continent to engage in dialogue on shared Defence and Security mechanisms to enhance defence capabilities amongst African nations.

The Chairman, African Chief of Defence Summit Abuja, Air Vice Marshal Precious Amadi, disclosed this when he briefed Journalists on the maiden edition of the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to him, Africa and the world currently face a myriad of contemporary security challenges across the spectrum of terrorism, armed conflicts, organized crime, and arms trafficking.

“The transnational nature of these threats demands that nations collaborate to confront them.

“To this end, the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit (ACDSS) was conceptualised by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa as a premier platform for the Chiefs of Defence establishments across the continent to engage in dialogue on shared Defence and Security mechanisms to enhance Defence capabilities amongst African nations,” he said.

The theme for the inaugural Summit is “Combating Contemporary Threats to Regional Peace and Security in Africa: The Role of Strategic Defence Collaborations.”

AVM Amadi said the summit will cover 4 thematic areas, including:

-Initiating Discussions on Collective Strategies for African Security Issues.

-Facilitating Collaborative Response to Peace and Security Issues in Africa.

-Developing Mechanisms for Integrating the Private Sector into Africa’s Defence Efforts, and,

-Establishing a Roundtable for the Initiation of Homegrown Solutions to Africa’s Defence Needs.

The summit is scheduled to be held from 25th to 27th August 2025, in Abuja, with the presence of over 53 Chiefs of Defence Staff from across African countries.

Other guests include heads of the African Union and ECOWAS commissions, state governors, foreign ministers, government offices, officials and offices, and heads of various security agencies, amongst others.

“It will impress you to know that the summit will be organised in conjunction with African Business Roundtable, a Nigerian company who are consultant to this event, and very exposed and capable of answering events.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also supporting us, along with other stakeholders, to support and partner with this event. It is on this premise that the Defence Headquarters is seeking your support for collaboration and your partnership to make the African Chiefs of Defence Staff Summit 2025 a huge success,” he said.
