Nigeria’s Federal High Court has approved the creation of a Vacation Court in its Enugu Division.

The initiative will serve the South East Geo-Political Zone, ensuring that urgent and sensitive legal matters are addressed without delay, even during the judiciary’s annual long vacation.

The decision comes in response to a formal appeal by Sir K. Chukwudi Olemeforo, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Oji River Branch.

In a letter dated June 24, 2025, Olemeforo emphasized the pressing need for uninterrupted legal processes in the region.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John T. Tsoho, granted the approval “after considering the merit and, particularly, the need for continuous access to justice,” according to an official statement.

The court will sit from Monday, July 28 to Tuesday, September 16, 2025, under the supervision of Hon. Justice M. T. Segun-Bello. It will specifically handle critical matters originating from the five South Eastern states: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.

This development underscores the Federal High Court’s broader commitment to the rule of law and the principle that justice must not pause, even when courts traditionally do.

The Federal High Court’s move reaffirms its resolve to deliver timely justice and adapt to the evolving demands of a nation where legal needs do not take holidays.
