Nigeria’s Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has received a delegation from the Parliament of Malawi led by its First Deputy Speaker, Mr Madalitso Kazombo, in a move to deepen legislative cooperation between both countries.
The Malawian lawmakers are in Nigeria for a five-day capacity-building workshop organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

Speaking during the courtesy visit, Mr Kalu described the existing legislative partnership between Nigeria and Malawi as “healthy for Africa’s growth and development,” noting that the engagement would boost legislative capacity and democratic practice across the continent.
He commended the delegation for choosing Nigeria as a destination for training, stating that it reflects the country’s growing influence in democratic governance.

“It is with great pleasure that I warmly welcome you to the National Assembly of Nigeria, especially to the People’s House, the House of Representatives. Your visit is a significant milestone in our shared journey towards strengthening parliamentary democracy and legislative capacity,” Mr Kalu said.
“I must say, I’m glad you chose Nigeria when you chose to study at NILDS. It means that you are impressed with what we have done with our experiences and best practices with regards to strengthening our democracy here in Nigeria,” he added.
For his part, Mr Kazombo said Malawi stood to benefit from Nigeria’s democratic experience and expressed optimism that the exchange would yield positive results for both parliaments.
The visit is aimed at promoting knowledge sharing, best practices, and collaboration between the legislative institutions of Nigeria and Malawi, while further strengthening bilateral relations.
