The talents in Nigeria are set to recieve a massive boost with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Nigerian government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Pantami Signed for the Nigerian government while Dean Yusuf said for the tech giant, Microsoft.
The minister lists the categories of training to include 1 million job seekers on Microsoft global skilling initiative and these 1 million Job will be trained in the most relevant digital skills for the Jobs of today.

About 1700 master trainers will be up skilled, 200 thousand certifications will be obtained by the learners 7000 jobs will be created for this initiative.
“We also have Africa transformation skills 2 million Nigerians will benefit from free digital skills that will enhance the way they do business, create job opportunities and increase productivity, also 20 thousand Nigerians will have an opportunity to create jobs, 31 thousand learners will be engaged and up skilled in data and artificial intelligence the programme will be facilitated by Microsoft and will fully utilise the Microsoft cloud. This is a thirty days programme for this category, 1000 developers will have low code/ no code skills through a Microsoft initiative, 1000 developers will take part in the Power App Africa Challenge.
“Others include 5500 are to benefit from the Global power platform boot camp, 3200 students will gain technology skills on Microsoft technology stack to increase their chances of employability 500 participants are to benefit from the Azure Nigeria Community Conference while 27000 will be connected to improved livelihood opportunities.”
Professor Isa Pantami said other aspects of the MoU is to benefit a huge part of the Nation’s population with digital skills that will “a long way to enhance economic development, job creation. My Boss and my Principal, President Muhammadu Buhari will also be excited. I mentioned to him when the president of Microsoft visited him that 5 million citizens will be trained as part of Microsoft’s corporate social responsibility. This is one of the legacies of my principal President Buhari.”
Pantami asked the Microsoft delegation to see to the implementation of the MoU effective immediately more so “in addition to the training by parastatals of the ministry of Communication and Digital Economy such as NITDA, NCC, Galaxy, NIMC, Nigcomsat if we can get an addition 5 million citizens trained then this is something amazing and huge.”
Speaking on behalf of Microsoft Dean yusuf and Olatomiwa Williams said this journey has been on for a while and it is gratifying to see it come to such an amazing point of signing the MoU.
They said Microsoft has been in Nigeria for over 20years and has made appreciable impact and that alot of Nigerians are working for Microsoft thus contributing to the global solutions that the company brings to the world. “Talent development is critical to us, we understand the positioning of Microsoft in helping to fill the talent gap globally and that’s why we are seeing this as part of our contribution to the economy.”
Signing of the MoU by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Prof. Isa Pantami is a bold step by the ministry to boost the technological capacity of citizens and give more people the necessary Digital skills to compete globally.
