Nigeria Military Adopts Use of Smart Technology to Enhance Operations

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has stated that the Nigerian Army, in its bid to become a global player in military digital solutions, is gradually transiting from the traditional to smart technological concepts, to enhance its operational capabilities.

He stated this while addressing participants at the Army Headquarters Department of Transformation and Innovation Seminar, on Nigerian Army Digital Transformation and Innovation with the theme; ‘Enhancing the Nigerian Army Operational Efficiency Through Digital Transformation and Innovation within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.’

The Army Chief, who was represented by the Commander of Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Ayannuga Adeleke, said the conduct of modern-day warfare is greatly influenced by technological revolution, driven by digitalization and artificial intelligence.

According to General Oluyede, understanding and applying this concept would greatly enhance troops’ proficiency in providing timely and accurate fire support to enhance the military’s all-weather fighting capability.

“In today’s rapidly evolving global landscape, leveraging cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions cannot be overemphasized. Hence, the a need to collaborate and develop our digital and technological capabilities in fighting insecurity in Nigeria.”

He emphasized that the Nigerian Army, under his watch, will continue to foster partnerships and collaboration with other security agencies, government agencies, and relevant institutions to combat insecurity and promote national development.

Earlier, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation of the Army, Major General Olusegun Abai, highlighted the importance of collaboration among relevant security agencies to combat insecurity in Nigeria.

He further stated that the seminar enables the Nigerian Army to facilitate digital transformation and ensure seamless intelligence gathering, surveillance, and effective communication systems to enhance operational efficiency.

“The seminar is designed to actualize the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy in enhancing Nigerian Army operational effectiveness by embracing the adoption of 21st-century military infrastructure and technology in the digital age.”
