Cultural exchange and economic corporation between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Morocco has remained strategic in taking the two countries to a greater height.
The Moroccan Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Moha Tagma, stated this during the opening ceremony of Nigeria-Morocco first handcraft exhibitions in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.
Ambassador Tagma added that there are more than forty-nine manufacturing plants in Kaduna, Ogun and Sokoto States, as well as large complex in Akwa-Ibom State built by Morocco.
“Nigeria and Morocco have historical link for more than hundred years which the two countries share together”.
The President of Moroccan chamber of Craft and Artisans, Mr. Abderrahim Zemzani, said to expand the cultural exchange programme, Nigeria and Morocco have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on cultural and economic collaboration between the two countries and other African countries.
“In order to build strong relation and commercial activities as well as paving the way of Moroocan products into Nigerian market, giving its ties that comprises diplomacy, defending National Interest, promoting National identity through multiple art and culture, economic flows toward Africa and mutual exchange of goods and services between North and South African countries”.
While explaining some of the objectives of the event, The President, Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mines and Steel, Alh. Muazu Bello said “the aims and objectives of this Exhibition are to deploy and strengthen commercial and economic ties of Nigeria, Sokoto in Particular and Morocco Kingdom and the entire world, this concept is desirable considering the various formal and informal trade relation that exists between the two countries”.
The Former Nigerian Ambassador to Morocco, Ambassador Baba Garba, urged Nigeria to avoid merging some important ministries together to effectively harness the potentials of human resources.
Some of the highlights of the event was the Moroccan Traditional wedding festival and Nigerian Cultural dances.
Nigeria and Morocco have been enjoying cultural and economic ties for more than six decades.
