The Nigeria Police Academy in Kano State has denied opening admissions for new intakes into the institution describing the information as fake news being able orchestrated by fraudsters.
This is just as the Academy has concluded plans to introduce more new courses on security studies.
The Commandant of the Academy, AIG Sadiq Abubakar, stated this during an interactive session with media men from the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, at the Academy.
He clarified that fraudsters, especially on social media are behind the fake news.
Abubakar said; “I want to clarify that the academy has not started the processes for new intakes. The information on new admission into the school is fake news and being preface fraudsters. The general public should take note. At the right time, the date and approved lists for the new session will be officially announced.”
According to him, the institution whose preparation is on top gear to graduate in fifth degree awarding cadets, has concluded plans to introduce new causes in security studies, which were hitherto attended outside the country.
“The new security studies are specialised Diploma courses which also include forensic studies. It is going to be one of a kind as the institution is the only one in West Africa.
“People will be coming from other countries to attend like the way Nigerians use to go outside the country,” he explained.
He said the expansion plan equally includes a faculty of education, to serve teaching needs of primary and secondary schools across police formations in the country.
The Commandant also said that the Academy has plans, under its entrepreneurship studies, to introduce skills acquisition in bread, water productions, fish and poultry farming, among others.
“The move is also to drive internally Generated Revenue, IGR, for the institution,” he said.
Abubakar noted that the institution has adopted strict discipline according to the Act that established the school, to ensure that the graduates serve the societal needs.
He said doors of the institution were open for support by well-meaning Nigerians, as a committee has been set up to that effect, while appreciating partnership with the media so that the school can be “objectively criticised when things are going wrong and be lauded when things are going right.
“The police cannot do it alone, so we welcome partnership,” he said
Abubakar added the the police university has always been engaged in corporate social responsibility,CSR, by providing health, education, employment needs among others to the surrounding communities to enhance peaceful coexistence.
The Chairman of the chapel, Aminu Garko commended the institution for training officers to meet the security challenges of the country.
