Nigeria Police vows to arrest gun running syndicate

The Nigeria Police Force has vowed to neutralise a gun running syndicate for locally fabricating and distributing automatic weapons in Cross River State, South-South Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Police, Cross River State Command, Mr. Aminu Alhassan made the remark during a press briefing in Calabar, the state capitals part effort to reduce illegal arms supply in the state.
Syndicates
 
Alhassan said that the Command’s Special Forces intercepted a man for alleged attempting to transport locally fabricated automatic weapons across the nation’s international border.
According to the Commissioner, “a team of Anti – Robbery Section SCID, Calabar, on information intercepted one Fobi Kingsley Mbaku (Gun Runner) along Ranch road, Obanliku local government area; a hideout for locally fabricated automatic rifle”.
 
 During the raid on Kingsley hideout  , one locally fabricated rifle (AK 47) with two hundred rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
 We’re recovered as  efforts are  ongoing to arrest other fleeing syndicate members and to unravel the source and mission of this illegitimate venture.
 
Alhassan said  suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed. 
The Police Commissioner also informed newsmen that the command was also after a syndicate involved in circulation of fake currencies in the state, a development he noted was tantamount to economic sabotage.
He said a man was apprehended with a large stash of counterfeit One thousand naira notes at a Point of Sale operator in Calabar.
Collaboration 
 
The police chief in calabar , attributed the successes achieved within the past two months to the support and collaboration amongst security agencies, the media and the public.
Protests
The Police Commissioner also used the opportunity to warn residents against organising and holding all forms of street protests capable of being hijacked by persons with sinister agenda.
According to him, “the police would not condone any attempt to breach the peace existing in the state urging people to seek legal redress in settling dispute rather than violence”.
Alhassan, denied the allegation of using tear gas on city sweepers protesting the non-payment of six months stipend by the state government.
