The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the country’s participation in international technology in the next four years.
The country’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani, announced this in the northern commercial city of Kano during the opening ceremony of the 11th Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
He noted that the primary goal of President Bola Tinubu’s administration is to enhance Nigeria’s participation in the global technology trade over the next four years.
He said, “Through policies, we shall be able to strengthen our position as a technology hub.”
Dr. Tijjani said the Nigerian government has identified nine priority policies for review, including Nigeria National Broadband Plan, National Policy on Digital Public Infrastructure and National Policy on Telecommunications, among others.
According to him, the Government was also committed to building the critical infrastructure required to power a strong Digital Economy.
He said, “We will ensure broadband penetration, efficient spectrum management, right Digital Public Infrastructure and reimagine the postal Service for connectivity and economic growth.
“We have also considered Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Capital as the fourth pillar in the strategic blueprint. Since these are important for the survival of any country, we have outlined a set of initiatives that would create innovations and develop entrepreneurship and capital for delivering a vibrant and inclusiveness.”
Also, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano state appealed to the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy to facilitate the handing over of Nigeria Communication Commission NCC Digital and Industrial Park to state to promote and advance ICT development.
He informed the Minister Dr. Bosun Tijjani that, the facility has since been completed and left unutilized, adding that, the handing over of the facility to is “with a view to complement the Federal Government move in digitization and promotion of the economy.”

He said his administration has designed policies in shaping Kano destiny into digital age.
He added that, because of the importance of ICT, Kano has digitized it geographic system and Government daily activities.
Governor Yusuf said, the state development plan and strategy is online with Technology and Innovation plan of the federal government policy to champion development.
The Kano State Commissioner of science Technology and Innovation Alhaji Mohammed Othman informed the Minister that Kano is complementing federal government through internet penetration to local areas.
The Chief Executive Officer National Information Technology Development Agency NITDA Dr. Kashifu Inuwa believes that investing in technology will bring about renewed economic prosperity through innovation.
Other stakeholders in the ICT sector made contributions at the meeting.
