Nigeria Recommits To Gender Inclusivity, Women Empowerment

The Nigerian government has restated its commitment to promoting gender inclusivity in all parts of the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made the declaration on Tuesday, while briefing Journalists on plans for the forthcoming gender inclusion conference themed “Breaking Down Barriers and Building Resilience for Sustainable Economic and Financial Inclusion for Women.”

The Vice President, who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Hadeja, revealed that the event will take place at the State House Conference Center on Thursday and Friday this week.

Highlighting the importance of women and the need to empower them for national development, the Vice President said:

“The forthcoming gender inclusion conference tagged #sheisincluded, is scheduled to take place Thursday 30th and Friday 31st January, 2025,will provide a platform to address pressing challenges related to women’s economic empowerment and inclusion from a holistic perspective.

“The flagship initiative is part of the implementation of the recommendations of the Aso Accord for economic and financial inclusion. It will provide a pivotal platform to promote dialogue, collaboration and actionable solutions aimed at empowering women and addressing official issues of gender equality across Nigeria and the African continent.”

The Vice President added that the conference will further showcase President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to advancing economic inclusion for women as well as achieve goal five of the Sustainable Development Goals.

“The transformative summit underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to advancing economic inclusion for women and the underserved communities across the country. It also aligns with the current administration’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, equitable opportunities and the active participation of women in national development,” he added.

He said events at the two-day conference will include executive and technical sessions and a town hall meeting that will articulate the issues raised on the first day of the summit.

Participants at the forthcoming event include the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nation, Amina Mohammed, State Governors and Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, among others.
