Nigeria Records $30b Investment Commitments

The Minister of Industry Trade and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite says Nigeria currently has 30 billion Dollars investment commitment s from various investors.

At a ministerial briefing in Abuja Nigeria’s capital, Uzoka-Anite also said the redemption of the commitments would span over a period of 5 to 8 years.

She said; “We have also received a lot of investments, commitments and pledges from our oil and gas free Zone alone last week, I hosted some of them who came in and have already committed $10 billion additionally.

“And I hosted the MD of SHELL who explained to me about investment plans of shell, I know a lot of us are aware that shell is leaving, he came to explain to me what they mean by that. I can tell you that they’re not leaving rather expanding and increasing their investments in Nigeria, they’re selling their onshore assets and increasing their investment in gas and in offshore assets.” 

National job centre

The Minister further said that the Ministry is a creating a National job centre to match available vacancies in industries and businesses with available talent pool.

For us to track and monitor the progress of these employment opportunities and make sure that employment opportunities to get to everybody who deserves it, we are creating the job centre people where can apply online, they can go online and see available opportunities and take advantage of it.

“The job centre also serves as a facility for training and empowering people, we will do those job preparatory trainings to make them job ready,” Uzoka-Anite explained.

She said to equip the youth with required skill and make them employable, one of the ministry’s agencies, the Industrial Training Fund is offering the artisan licencing and certification scheme.

She said; “We have over 17 million artisans, People who don’t have formal education and even people who have formal education, but want to be self employed.

“You must have your certificate, you must have your licence, because if you have your licence, people have increased confidence in your ability to perform your job and because of that, you get a higher pay.”

Uzoka-Anite stressed that the Ministry is set to launch the National Trade Intelligence Unit that will be a National Coordinator and focal point for all trade related data and information in Nigeria.

She said; “This office is set to leverage world class technology such as Artificial Intelligence, the Internet of Things, and Big-Data to provide Nigeria with the ability to predict global market trends that will enhance our local and global trading capacities thereby significantly enhancing trade and the ease of doing business in Nigeria, in line with Mr President’s 8 Point Agenda.”
