The Presidency has announced a significant decline in terror-related fatalities across Nigeria, noting an 81 percent decrease since 2015, a development it attributes to sustained counter-insurgency efforts and improved collaboration within the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement issued by the Presidency and shared on the X handle of @SundayDareSD, it was revealed that over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised in the past year, while more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered to Nigerian authorities.

The Presidency further disclosed that over 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have successfully returned to their homes, with several previously ravaged communities now undergoing reconstruction under government-led initiatives.

A Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict has also been established to support the rebuilding of livelihoods and facilitate social reintegration.

The statement further emphasised that the Federal Government continues to strengthen inter-agency coordination through joint security task forces, enhanced border patrols, and partnerships with local, regional, and international actors. Other remedial measures include compensation for victims of terrorism, the establishment of permanent joint patrols, and enhanced intelligence sharing mechanisms.

Reaffirming its commitment to national stability, the Presidency underscored that these coordinated security and humanitarian efforts reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering resolve to safeguard lives, restore peace, and protect the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu has maintained that “the security of Nigeria is non-negotiable.”

Building on this resolve, the Federal Government, since 2023, intensified coordinated security operations through strengthened inter-agency cooperation, leading to the arrest, neutralisation, and successful prosecution of key terror elements and insurgent leaders responsible for some of the nation’s most grievous attacks.

According to the Presidency, over 124 terrorists and insurgents have been successfully convicted since 2024, while several others including members of the Ansaru leadership, and those implicated in the Owo Church bombing of 2022, as well as the Yelwata (Benue) reprisal and counter-reprisal attacks are currently facing trial in various courts across the country.

These actions, the statement noted, underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to justice, accountability, and the protection of every Nigerian life within the framework of law and order.
