Nigeria, Saudi Arabia  collaborate to fight  global terrorism

Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have pledged their commitment and collaboration to the fight against global terrorism.

The two countries made the commitment when the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, received in audience the Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Far han Al Saud, in his office in Abuja, Nigeria.

Mr. Onyeama said that Saudi Arabia and Nigeria have strengthened their relations over the years, and reiterated the commitment of the two nations to combat terrorism especially in the Sahel region and other parts of the world.

“In the area of security, which we discussed with His Excellency, we have global challenge of terrorism and insurgency, non state actors are destabilizing countries around the world.”

 “We need to work together to address this global challenge.”

On trade relations between the two countries, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs disclosed that Nigeria and Saudi Arabia have increased their economic cooperation in a bid to boost the volume of trade that exist between the two countries.

Mr. Onyeama said the Nigeria and Saudi Arabia Joint Commission is being revitalized as a veritable platform to boost trade between the two countries.

“These are two big countries looking to increase the level of trade between them.”

“During the last visit of Nigerian President to Saudi Arabia he agreed with the Crown Prince on the importance of setting up a business council to bring Nigeria n business men and Saudi Businessmen together to explore areas of trade and business.”

“And also to revitalize a framework that we already have for cooperation and this is a Joint Commission, so we hoping to have another one, the last one took place quite a long time ago in Saudi Arabia, over six years ago and we want to have another one by the end of this year so that we can really identify and put in place a roadmap for further cooperation between our two countries.”

The Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, said his country and Nigeria have intensified their efforts in boosting their trade relations for the benefit of the countries.

“We have a lot of opportunities to cooperate and work together to build a strong partnership.”

Mr. Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, said his country has a strong partnership with Nigeria, which they have built of over the years especially business to business bonds.

He disclosed that two countries also discussed security issues especially in the Middle East and the Sahel region and the need to enhance cooperation.

He noted that the two countries as key players in there region need to align and cooperate in global security.
