Debutant Rahmon Ali smashed 64 runs off 36 balls to guide Nigeria to a nine-wicket victory over Sierra Leone, at the West Africa Trophy cricket tournament in Abuja.

The match at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Sunday saw Nigeria win the toss and choose to field first against their regional rivals.

Nigeria’s disciplined bowling attack restricted Sierra Leone to 95 all out in 18.5 overs, keeping tight lines throughout the innings.

In reply, Nigeria cruised to 98 for one in 11.1 overs, driven by Ali’s explosive knock and captain Sulaimon Runsewe’s steady 21 off 30 balls.

The result gives Nigeria four wins from four matches, placing them top of the group with eight points in the ongoing tournament.

Nigeria will next face Rwanda on Monday as they aim to extend their unbeaten run.
