Nigeria security agencies hold 2023 Military Sports Council Day run

The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have concluded the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Day Run for the year 2023.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor disclosed this during the 5 kilometers trek which took off from Guards Brigade Sports Complex in Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja.

The Defence Chief said that “the sports are to promote friendship among security agencies globally”.

Represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Jackson Yusuf, he said that “the level of Physical fitness and high level of morale are requisite for combating security challenges facing the country”.

General Irabor congratulated the officers for the successful completion of International Military Sports Council, CISM, Day Run for the year 2023.

He noted that the International Military Sports Council, CISM, was founded in 1948 after the war as a means of promoting global peace and unity after destruction.

According to him, the International Council for Military Sports has grown from 5 members to 114 member states.

He added that Nigeria became a member of the global body in 1972 and has remained actively involved in the activities ever since.

He noted that the armed forces and other security agencies can proudly tell the world of their daily successes in counter insurgency and tackling other security challenges in Nigeria.

He urged them to sustain the current momentum as the nation is looking up to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies to play their roles in ensuring that the 2023 General election is peaceful.

The Director of Sports, Defence Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal OK Aliyu was grateful for the successful completion of the 2023 Day Run.

He also appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor for the supporting them in making the event successful.
