The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the country’s power sector achieved a new peak generation of 5,543.20 megawatts (MW) in the first quarter of 2025.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the nation’s capital, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the milestone was recorded at 11:00 PM on Friday, February 14, 2025.
According to TCN, this achievement surpasses the previous peak of 5,478.73 MW, which was recorded on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The development marks a significant step in Nigeria’s efforts to enhance power generation capacity and improve electricity supply nationwide.

“The new Maximum Daily Energy of 125,159.48 MWH is the highest ever recorded in the nation’s electricity industry, exceeding the previous record of 121,674.88 MWH on February 7, 2025, by 3,484.60 MWH.
“It revealed that the new peak generation and maximum daily energy were successfully transmitted to the distribution companies’ load centres nationwide for onward distribution to their customers.“
Mrs Mbah described the achievement by TCN, underscoring the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, to elevating Nigeria’s power generation and supply.
