Nigeria Star stresses On Homegrown Streaming Platform
Kunle Afolayan a Nigerian actor and director, has called on Nigeria to stop relying on foreign streaming platforms and start building its own credible digital distribution system.
Afolayan made this known during an interview, addressing the need for government support, creative infrastructure, and cultural investment.
“We need investment in infrastructure and technology. There’s no reason Nigeria can’t have its own credible, large-scale distribution platform,” he said.
He continued by pointing out that local creators depend heavily on global giants like Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube “But it starts with valuing intellectual property and educating audiences about the importance of paying for content,” he added.
According to him, his vision has always gone beyond making films. From KAP Academy to Afefeyeye restaurant, everything he builds feeds into the larger ecosystem of Nigerian storytelling and cultural development.
“Afefeyeye is more than just a restaurant, it’s an extension of the KAP ecosystem, celebrating culture through food and experience,” he added.
