In a bid to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation, the government has deepened its engagement with Google, building on discussions initiated during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

This collaboration aims to drive digitisation, capacity building, and the modernisation of Nigeria’s research ecosystem.

As part of this effort, a high-level follow-up meeting was held with Charles Murito, Regional Director for Sub-Saharan Africa, Government Affairs & Public Policy at Google, and Adewolu Adene, Head of West Africa, Government Affairs & Public Policy. The discussions focused on strategic partnerships that would enhance access to critical research data and create a centralised knowledge-sharing platform.

The proposed platform is expected to facilitate innovation by bridging the gap between research institutions, policymakers, and industry stakeholders. By integrating Google’s AI and Cloud solutions, Nigeria aims to transform its research landscape, enabling real-time data analysis, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and driving technological breakthroughs across multiple sectors.
