The Nigerian government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling unemployment and bridging the nation’s skills gap through large-scale vocational training under the National Artisans Skills Acquisition Programme (NASAP).
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, made this known in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the University of Uyo Centre for Skills Acquisition and Rural Development, led by its Director, Ambassador Ernest Essien.
Ata said the ministry is keen to collaborate with educational and vocational institutions to equip Nigerian youths with technical skills vital for national development.

“We are going to continue to interact with you so that we can work on areas of common ground,” he said.
“The Ministry will assist you as we factor your needs into our 2026 budget to provide all necessary support to carry out this project.”
The minister commended the University of Uyo Centre for its strong training initiatives, noting that its objectives align with NASAP’s mission to produce certified artisans capable of advancing the housing and infrastructure sectors.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Shuaib Belgore, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to linking skill acquisition with Nigeria’s housing development goals.

“Both parties will find a common ground to work together,” Belgore stated, emphasising that skilled manpower is essential for delivering affordable housing and infrastructure across the country.
In his remarks, Ambassador Essien lauded the government’s efforts to promote job creation through artisan training, describing it as a key driver of sustainable national development.
