Nigeria to become third most populous by 2050

The National President of the Population Association of Nigeria, Professor Rhoda Mundi says Nigeria’s population growth will double to over 400m by the year 2050, making it the third most populous country after India and China.

Professor Mundi made the statement at a two day Annual Conference of the Association in Abuja, the Country’s capital.

She said that ”more than 50% of the World’s population will be coming from Africa by 2050.”

In addressing the population crisis, she said ”there is need for a Population Census to provide data for national growth in every country.”

Professor Mundi stated that the conference would identify population challenges and proffer solutions amidst insecurity, population growth and demographic dividend.

Other stakeholders at the event also called on the Nigerian government to conduct population census, to address the demographic challenges and population growth.
