The quarter-finals line-up for the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been confirmed, with the Super Eagles of Nigeria set to take on Algeria for a place in the semi-finals.

Nigeria produced one of the standout performances in the Round of 16, overpowering Mozambique with Victor Osimhen scoring twice to highlight the Super Eagles’ attacking firepower.

Algeria also required extra time to dispatch DR Congo, with substitute Adil Boulbina netting the decisive late goal.

The quarter-finals promise heavyweight encounters, none bigger than the clash between Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire, a meeting of Africa’s most decorated nations, scheduled for Saturday.

Egypt sealed their place with a hard-fought extra-time victory over Benin, while Côte d’Ivoire delivered a commanding 3–0 win against Burkina Faso to keep their title defence firmly on track.

On Friday, hosts Morocco faces five-time champions Cameroon in a high-stakes contest.  Morocco beat Tanzania, buoyed by strong home support, as Senegal overcame Sudan to underline their consistency since lifting the trophy in 2021.

Meanwhile, an all–West African duel pits Senegal against Mali. Mali showed remarkable resilience, eliminating Tunisia on penalties despite spending long spells with ten men.

With the margin for error gone, the race for continental glory intensifies as Africa’s elite battle for a place in the semi-finals.
