The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has announced that the 4th edition of the African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS), scheduled for July 15 – 17, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria will host over 1,000 stakeholders, showcase technology solutions, and facilitate concrete investment commitments across Africa.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, disclosed this during a pre-summit press conference in Abuja. Themed Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development, the summit aims to advance from policy dialogue to actionable projects.

Alake, represented by the Director General of the Mining Cadastral Office, Engineer Obadiah Nkom, said AFNIS 2025 is designed to shift from advocacy to implementation and deliver bankable outcomes. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s role as a key convener and thought leader in Africa’s extractive sector dialogue.

According to him, “Today, AFNIS is Africa’s leading platform for cross-sector dialogue, investment matchmaking, and long-term strategic partnerships across the natural resources and energy value chain.” He added that “The 2025 edition is designed to reflect growth and includes a retreat for ministers and Chief Executive Officers focused on building vision and trust among key stakeholders.”

The Minister also outlined the summit’s key focus areas and expected achievements. He explained that “This summit is centered around creating value from our resources. Key focus areas will include, but are not limited to, local industrialisation—specifically, how to transform our abundant raw materials into processed products such as batteries, solar components, fertilisers, and metals.”

He continued, “We are exploring energy transition to leverage our renewable resources and natural gas to deliver energy solutions that effectively serve African communities, providing clean, reliable, and affordable options. We will also examine how to integrate mining and agriculture, as well as petrochemicals and energy, in a way that supports long-term growth.”

Also speaking ahead of the summit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Engineer Faruk Yabo, represented by the Director of Mines Environmental Compliance, Dr. Vivian Okono, emphasised the strategic importance of the gathering. She stated that “This is a crucial step toward unlocking Africa’s potential in driving sustainable investment, fostering industrial innovation, and promoting regional integration.”

She added, “As we prepare to host this year’s summit in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, from July 15 to 17, 2025, the ministry is focused on harnessing local content for sustainable development. Today, we gather to share insights into the purpose, scope, and expectations of the Pan-African platform.”

The summit is expected to offer Nigeria a unique opportunity to highlight achievements under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
