Nigeria to host International Conference on Biotechnology

The National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency NBRDA will be hosting its maiden International Conference on Biotechnology that will explore the transformative potential of biotechnology in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

The Director General of NBRDA Professor Abdullahi Mustapha who disclosed this when he briefed journalists said that the 5 day conference will be held from Monday, 15th to Friday, 19th July 2024 in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The DG noted that the conference will explore pivotal sectors such as Agriculture, Health, Environment, Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Industry, Ethics, as well as Intellectual Property Rights.

He added that the conference will bring together leading scientists, researchers, policymakers, industry experts, and entrepreneurs from around the world to discuss and explore the transformative potential of biotechnology in driving Nigeria’s economic growth.

“The 5-day conference will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, poster presentations and exhibitions that highlight the latest advancements in biotechnology and their applications across various sectors.” He said.

Prof. Mustapha stressed that by staying at the forefront of biotechnological advancements, Nigeria and Africa as a whole can enhance their global competitiveness.

“The knowledge shared at the conference can empower local researchers, scientists, and entrepreneurs to innovate and compete on a global scale. This can attract foreign investment, partnerships, and collaborations, further boosting the economic impact of biotechnology advancements. In addition, solutions discussed at the conference can have a direct impact on improving the quality of life for citizens, reducing poverty, and promoting sustainable development” He added.

On the line up of Dignitaries expected to attend the grand event, the DG hinted that”Our Special Guest of Honour at the Conference is His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Our Guest of Honour is His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, CGFR. The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji is the Chief Host”.

As he used the medium to invite all stakeholders, including scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers, to participate in this landmark event, Prof Mustapha revealed that the theme of the event is tagged as “Biotechnology as an Engine for Economic Growth,”.
