Nigeria and the Republic of Namibia have pledged to strengthen the bilateral relations between them in areas that will benefit both countries in particular and the African continent.
The Director-General of the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Professor Eghosa Osaghae stated this at the one-day Ambassadorial forum held in Lagos with the theme: “Nigeria and Namibia Relations.”
Professor Osaghae described the relationship between Nigeria and Namibia as very cordial in the sense that the Namibia’s High commissioner, Humphrey Geiseb recently met with Nigerian President Muhammad Buhari on bilateral ties and on that, Buhari noted the cordiality and support that Nigeria had enjoyed relating with Namibia.
According to the Director-General, the relations emerging between Nigeria and Namibia are seen as a merger of the national perspectives of the two countries against a pan-African setting.
He said that the Pan-Africanism provided the general background against which Nigeria supported the independence struggle of Namibians.
Nigeria has a strong diplomatic relations with Namibia, which dates back to March 2, 1990, following the country’s attainment of independence.
Professor Osaghae also mentioned the issue of visa issuance between the two countries, adding that Nigerians had never had the problem of visa denial unless due process was not followed.
