Nigeria Underscores Importance of Whistle Blower Policy

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Budget And National Planning, Dr Mrs Zainab Ahmed, has described whistle blower policy as one of the effective means of fighting corrupt practices in the nation.

The Nigerian Government introduced the whistle blowing policy in its fight against corruption in December 2016.

Speaking through a virtual address during a Two Day Zonal Conference on ‘Whistle Blower Policy in Nigeria for The South East’, held in Awka Anambra State, she said the policy would strengthen the capacity of Anti Graft Agencies to stamp out corruption.

While describing the theme of the conference”Implementation Of The Whistle Blower Policy In Nigeria: Challenges And Way Forward” as apt, she reiterated that nothing would stop government from achieving its vision of promoting accountability, public trust and transparency.

Earlier,The State Governor, Professir Charles Soludo, while declaring the conference open,urged every stakeholder to take ownership of the policy by exposing corruption and providing useful information.

The Governor who was represented by the State Head of Service, Mrs Theodora Igwegbe assured whistle blowers of adequate government protection as the policy would be fully implemented in the state.

He said  the truth was of essence, and added that information must be verified before public disclosure.
