The Nigerian government has been advised to enforce its Local Content policy in all the sectors of economic value of the country.
An expert in the Oil Industry and a former lawmaker at the Nigeria’s National Assembly, Bassey Otu told Voice of Nigeria that placing emphasis on the implementation of the Local Content policy would accelerate development in the country.
According to him, ”a proper economic base will make the country have a viable economic environment with strong economic base that will be easier for the people to obey the laws of the land.”
Otu said the Local Content policy should not be limited to the Oil industry alone but it should be felt in the construction sectors, hotels and others.
He frowned at the system of bringing people or technicians from other Countries to come and do things that Nigerians normally would have done.
“We have capable Nigerians that are experts in different fields that if given the opportunity to contribute their quota, the country will be better…We have what it takes to make Nigeria great, all we need is to change our perception, drop ethnic and religion contention in our characters.
“Government at all levels in our country should know that by implementing the Local content properly, things will automatically change,” Otu explained.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to put their ark together and form a formidable force of positive thinking that would be of national interest.
”I am calling on Nigerians to unanimously kick against divide and rule practice by some selfish politicians to achieve their personal mandate. It will not help the country but rather tear the citizens apart,” he said.
Otu also urged Political leaders at all levels to set their priorities right by putting an equitable society where opportunities are there for everyone to thrive.
