Nigerian Minister of Industry Trade and Investment, Mr Adeniyi Adebayo says the tourism sector in the country still remains largely unexploited stating that if properly developed, tourism can significantly contribute to the nation’s gross domestic product.
Mr Adebayo stated this during a press briefing on Nigeria at 60 celebrations titled: ‘Exhibition of Made-in-Nigeria products and live performance of Cultural Troupes’ in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Year-long celebration
The Minister who is also the Chairman of sub-committee of Nigeria@60 celebration noted that although the nation turned 60 on October 1, 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed that the celebration should be made all year long to end in September 2020.
Accordingly to him, “of immediate concern to this meeting are exhibition of Made-in-Nigeria products and live performance of Cultural Troupes. These two events are scheduled to hold from June 15-19, 2021 at Eagle Square Abuja.
“An Inter-Ministerial Ownership Sub-Committee of the Nigeria @ 60 celebrations outlined a number of activities that are aimed at drawing attention to those attributes that our country is endowed with that need to be harnessed for the common good of all.
“The conceptualization of Nigeria @ 60 celebrations was made with the inclusion of the Private sector. Therefore, the following activities were drawn up: Exhibition Of Made in Nigeria Products, Live Performance of Cultural Troupes from the six (6) geopolitical zones of the country, essay Competition, photo Gallery, exhibition of Nigerian Cuisines Compendium and National Award.”
Mr Adebayo noted that the exhibition of Made-in-Nigeria products will reveal the tremendous potentials that abound in the quest for self sufficiency and self reliance.
He called on all Nigerians to join hands and create enough wealth for this and succeeding generations.
Trade policy
The Minister also said the ministry is in the process of updating and completing its trade policy in order to improve trade in the country.
“The document had been prepared; it is undergoing review. We want to update our trade policy to be effective for the current situation of the world so a lot is going into it and we are sure that by the time we complete the document, it will be the one that will be applauded be all Nigerians”, he said.
