Nigerian Army says the two soldiers involved in the brutality of civilians in Rivers State, in a viral video making the rounds in social media, have been identified and arrested.

A statement by Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah said the Headquarters, 6 Division, Nigerian Army viewed with utmost dismay the unprofessional conduct of two of its personnel involved in the act.

The Division stated unequivocally that “the Nigerian Army remains a professional force that conducts its activities in adherence to established rules of engagement and respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry, hence, no form of infraction would be condoned from erring personnel.”

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army who is also the Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South Nigeria, Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has directed that a full-scale investigation be conducted immediately.

The GOC further reassured the public that no stone would be left unturned in sanctioning those involved.

The Nigerian Army therefore encouraged well-meaning members of the public to continue to provide credible and timely information on such unprofessional conduct, as the Division is poised to be more responsive to the public.

It stressed that the incident is one unfortunate isolated case that would be expeditiously dealt with.
