The Nigerian Army and leaders of various ethnic communities in Kano state have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at sustaining peace and security in the state.

This followed a courtesy visit by the Ethnic Community Leaders Association in Kano State to the Commander of 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur.

This is contained in a press statement by Assistant Director Army Public Relations Major Babatunde Zubairu.

The delegation was led by the Eze Ndigbo of Kano, Dr. Boniface Ibekwe, and included other prominent leaders such as the Oba of Yoruba in Kano, Oba Muritala, the Sarkin Northern Minority, Abubakar Obochi, and the Sarki Edo in Kano, Deacon Fred Aigbe, among others.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ibekwe commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.

He noted that the cordial relationship between security agencies and ethnic community leaders has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in Kano state.

He described Kano as a “mini Nigeria” due to its diverse ethnic composition, stressing that continuous collaboration among security agencies and community leaders remains vital to sustaining peaceful coexistence.

The Eze Ndigbo also praised the efforts of the brigade in addressing recent security challenges in  Shanono Local Government Area bordering Katsina state while drawing attention to some security concerns within the Sabon-Gari axis, particularly threats circulating on social media.

He assured the Army of the ethnic leaders’ continued cooperation in supporting efforts to promote peace and stability.

In his remarks, the Commander of 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, appreciated the visit and described ethnic community leaders as key partners in maintaining security and stability in the state.

He emphasised that security remains a collective responsibility and urged the leaders to continue sensitising their communities to remain vigilant and provide credible information that would assist security agencies in carrying out their duties effectively.

Brigadier General Tukur also cautioned against the misuse of social media, noting that it can easily be used as a tool for spreading misinformation capable of creating tension within communities.

He reaffirmed the readiness of the Nigerian Army to continue working closely with community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen peace building efforts across Kano State.

The visit is seen as a significant step toward enhancing civil–military relations and deepening cooperation between security agencies and ethnic communities in promoting lasting peace in the state.
