The Nigerian Army Headquarters has ordered the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan, to immediately relocate to Kwara State to coordinate and strengthen military response in the area.

The directive follows appeals by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for increased military deployment to curb criminal activities across the state.

The Governor expressed deep regret over an attack on forest guards and nearby communities in Oke Ode, which claimed the lives of several innocent civilians and forest personnel who valiantly resisted the assailants.

My heartfelt condolences go to the families. No words can adequately capture the depth of my sadness, and nothing can compensate the bereaved families despite our investments in training the forest guards to bolster conventional forces. Our people are understandably concerned, and I share in this grief,” Governor AbdulRazaq said.

He commended the sacrifices of the security personnel and forest guards while noting that more must be done to restore full security in the state.

While we appreciate the efforts and successes of the security forces, we definitely need to do more until we are completely out of the woods,” he added.

Governor AbdulRazaq also urged residents to remain calm and avoid turning on one another, praising local hunters and forest guards who, despite losing five of their colleagues, successfully neutralised several attackers.

These brave men and women are our heroes, and we will forever be grateful for their service,” the Governor said.
