The troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued seven kidnapped victims who were abducted along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari road on 3 August in a two-day rescue operation targeting criminal hideouts in southern Taraba,

The operation was confirmed in a statement by Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, who said the offensive was carried out on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 August across Chinkai Forest and Owedi Community in Wukari Local Government Area.

Troops stormed suspected kidnappers’ camps after tracking the movement of the abductors. Overwhelmed by superior firepower and sustained pressure, the criminals reportedly fled into the forest, abandoning their captives. Four victims were rescued unhurt on 5 August in Chinkai Forest, while three female victims were secured the following day in Owedi.

Commander 6 Brigade NA / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the courage and precision of the troops. He said, “This successful rescue demonstrates our firm commitment to dismantling all criminal strongholds threatening the peace of Taraba State.”

He further assured residents of continued military presence and intelligence-led operations to secure vulnerable areas across the state.
