Nigerian Army Performs Symbolic Hoisting, Lowering of Command Flag

The Nigerian Army on Monday performed the symbolic lowering and hoisting of the flag that signifies a new command of leadership by the Chief of Army Staff ( COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede. 

The symbolic ceremonial flag hosting and new Command took place on Monday, 9th of December 2024 at the Army Headquarters, Abuja in Nigeria’s Capital.

The brief ceremony which was followed by a closed-door meeting with principal staff officers of the Nigerian Army, began with the ceremonial mounting of the guard, followed by the lowering and handing of the flag of the late Chief of Army Staff for onward transition to the Nigerian Army museum, before a new flag was hoisted signifying a new command post. 

It would be recalled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had appointed the current Chief of Army Staff shortly before the announcement of the demise of Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja who died while in active service to the fatherland. 

The Chief of Army Staff ( COAS) Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede who was appointed in acting capacity was also recently confirmed substantive Chief of Army Staff By the National Assembly.

Lieutenant General Oluyede held the post of the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army in Jaji, Kaduna State before he was appointed COAS  and is a member of the 39th Regular Course.

He held several other command posts before his appointment participating in several operations.
