Nigerian Army promises safe environment for 2023 elections
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Faruk Yahaya, has restated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to provide a secure atmosphere for the conduct of the 2023 general elections.
Yahaya, while declaring open the third quarter Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, directed the distribution of the reviewed rules of engagement and code of conduct for ‘Operations Safe Conduct’ to all officers and soldiers involved in election duties.
He noted that Army operations are yielding desired results, and pledged to inject more manpower as well as game-changing equipment into all theatres of operations.
He said, “As electioneering for general elections begins, I wish to once again assure the public that the Nigerian Army remains committed to discharging its constitutional responsibilities and assisting in providing a secure environment for the conduct of the general elections through ‘Operation Safe Conduct.’
“The Army is firming up its preparations to provide the necessary security assistance to ensure the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections.”
Yahaya stated that the kinetic actions in the North-Eastern region theatre of operations had continued to dismantle insurgents; resulting in the massive surrender of the terrorists, adding that such had positively impacted the morale of troops and greatly bolstered the confidence of the citizens.
