The Nigerian Army has emphasised the critical role safety plays in fostering prosperous communities while underscoring its ongoing efforts to uphold security measures for the benefit of all Nigerians.

The Director General, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General Wahaab Garba (Retired), made this known during the graduation ceremony of Safety Management and Practice Course 1in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The Director General emphasized the paramount importance of security. However, he also underscored that safety within the organization, as well as in the homes of all employees, takes precedence.

“There are needs for a sense of safety at work, but the emphasis now goes beyond that to look at safety at jobs with our children, with our colleagues, with our neighbours and we don’t want to know our neighbours,” he said.

He noted gradually that the participants are going to be concerned about their neighbourhood, what they do, and how they will assist them in case there’s an issue or there’s a problem.

He said that “these are the goals of what they want to achieve and challenging them as leaders in their own homes, organisations asking questions and getting things done properly sanctioning and what they are doing and doing them well.”

He urged the participants not to discard the knowledge they have acquired, but rather to leverage it effectively. Emphasizing that unused knowledge serves no purpose, he encouraged them to share and apply what they have learned, highlighting that knowledge unutilized and unshared is essentially wasted.

The Chairman for Strategic Studies, Planning and Management, Air Vice Marshal Ishaq Balogun (Retired), said that, “safety is a common word but the essence of the course is to know what exactly safety and requirements entail in relating with people in working places.”

He passionately implored the participants to treasure the knowledge they’ve gained, advocating for its effective application. Stressing that dormant knowledge holds no value, he motivated them to actively share and implement their learnings, underscoring that unutilized and unshared knowledge amounts to squandered potential.

He noted that people spend 90% of their lives where they work, so, there is a need for safety in these areas, and that is the essence of this course.

Course Representative, Cythia Ebu on behalf of the participants, expressed their appreciation for the completion of the programme and the certificate awarded to them.

A total of 27 participants completed the programme and certificates were awarded to them.
