Nigerian Army has planned to heighten the level of insecurity awareness and consciousness within the Barrack Communities across the Country.
This was stated by the Commander training and doctrine command of the Nigerian Army, Major General Stevenson Olugbenga Olatunji , during a seminar on Security awareness for Barracks community with theme “Security awareness ; A prerequisite for for enhanced barracks security”. held in TRADOC, Niger state north central Nigeria on Wednesday.
The TRADOC Commander who said the seminar was organized to heighten the level of insecurity and consciousness as well as equipping the Military to stern out petty crimes within the Barrack community mentioned that The Military Community no longer live in isolation due the diverse nature of people who visits the Barracks daily .
” We must be deliberate in creating security awareness for our families and friends in the Barracks “. added Maj Gen Olabanji.
“Nigerian army Barracks still remains the safest place anywhere in the country and we must strive to ensure that the highest form of security is emplaced and sustained “.
Major General Olabanji ,The TRADOC Commander further said the seminar among other issues would avail the Military a general overview of contemporary security situations both locally and globally.The Commander further said the seminar was organized due to the insecurity challenges confronting the nation which according to him its not peculiar and limited to Nigeria alone.
” We cannot deny the fact that such challenges exist and must be addressed accordingly for sustained peace and progress of everybody in the Country”.
” Its no longer news that the nation is grappling with challenges of insecurity ranging from armed robbery, banditry activities, kidnapping, cattle rustling, insurgency and terrorism amongst others”.
The TRADOC Commander who however pointed out that the seminar for security awareness in the Barracks was timely, mentioned that Military Barracks are no longer just for habitation area for the military personnel but serves as community both for the civil society thriving businesses, schools, farms and recreational activities amongst others .
Major General Olabanji,who warned on the consequences of insecurity ,emphasized that the situation knows no race,tribe and religion.
It could be recalled a Military Market popularly referred as Mammy Market was once attacked killing several people 10 years ago in Abuja Nigeria’s capital city.
