Nigerian Bobsled, Skeleton athletes set for junior World Championship in Austria
The Bobsled and Skeleton Federation of Nigeria (BSFN), is not leaving any stone unturned in its bid to dominate the stage at global level, as seven athletes are set for the World junior Championship in Austria in January.
Since Nigeria’s debut at the last Winter Olympics Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, many young athletes have embraced the sports, leading to an elaborate Olympics Trials at the National Stadium, Lagos, in September, where 10 athletes were selected to represent Nigeria at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Games.
President, BSFN, Chief Solomon Ogba, told The Guardian yesterday that the body had prepared seven junior stars to fly the nation’s flag, when hostilities begin at the World junior championship in Austria in January 2022.
According to Ogba, the seven junior athletes would depart for Austria soon to acclimatize ahead of the World junior championship.
“We have to prepare the young athletes well ahead of the future challenge,” Ogba said. “The World Junior Championship in Austria will be a stepping stone for many young athletes across the globe, and we want our stars to gain from it.”
Ogba, a former President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), also disclosed that some Nigerian athletes have entered for various competitions in the United States to boost their chances of qualifying for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Games.
