Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute gets new Director General

Professor Samson Duna has been confirmed as the new Director General of the Nigerian Building And Road Research Institute, NBRRI.

This was made known by Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

Professor Duna expressed his readiness to work for the positive growth of NBRRI and the development of Nigeria.

“I promise to take NBRRI to a higher level than I met it and to work with the cooperation of all staff of the Institute,” he said.

Born on the 13th of March, 1968 in Katsina-Ala Benue State in north central Nigeria, Professor Duna hails from Gombe State.

He is an erudite scholar who had his first school leaving certificate in 1980, General Certificate of Education, June 1985, Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1991, Masters of Science in 1998 and Doctor of Philosophy in 2012.

Professor Duna is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Engineering Management, Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, a COREN Registered Engineer and a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineering.

In April, 2016, he became a visiting Reader and an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering in Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi State, North-east Nigeria after which was promoted to the rank of Professor of Civil Engineering subject to positive external assessment on October 2017.

He has a lot of awards to his credit amongst them are Merit Award by the Student Union Government (S U G) Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi Chapter, 2013, Award of Excellence by Gombe State Students Association, ATBU Bauchi branch, 2013; Award of Excellence as “Icon of Transformation” by National Youth Discovery and Creativity Initiative, 2017; Award of Academic Excellence by Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Alumni Association, Plateau State Chapter, 2017.
