Nigerian Communities benefit from South-Korea

The South Korea International Cooperation Association in Nigeria (SKICAN) in collaboration with Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nigeria Office has donated COVID19 palliatives to beneficiaries as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in Nigeria, for year 2021, in Afua Community of Ibiono-Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State Southern Nigeria.

The choice for this year’s CSR activities is largely aimed at complimenting ongoing KOICA interventions within the Nigerian communities. Currently, KOICA is providing funds of up to Twenty Thousand US Dollars ($20,000) for a period of 4 months (August – November 2021) to support the delivery of free healthcare services to rural community dwellers within and around Afua Community, through partnership with Joseph Ukpo Hospitals and Research Institutes (JUHRI), located within the community and beyond.

The main objective of the Association is to enhance the Economic and Cultural Co-operation exchanges between Nigeria and Korea and to foster the exchange of experiences, ideas, and knowledge between KOICA Alumni members.

Beneficiaries were provided with various household hygiene items and educational materials, which include, bags and stationeries were distributed to some of the school children to further fill the gaps in their school resumption needs.

Speaking at the event, the President, South Korea International Cooperation Association in Nigeria (SKICAN), Mr. Rabiu Adamu informed that the CSR activity is to assist communities that suffered due to the impact of the COVID-19.

The Corporate Social Responsibility CSR Activity will go further in solidifying the intervention supported by the Korean Government through KOICA in Afua and some of the Nigerian Communities”.  Mr. Rabiu Adamu said,

In his remarks, the KOICA Country Director, Mr. Woochan Chang acknowledged the numerous needs of the community while expressing optimism that the palliatives will support some of the communities affected by COVID-19 pandemic to recover from the damages due to Covid-19 Virus.

The donated items would further contribute to the improvement of the socio-economic, educational and health condition of the beneficiaries”. Mr. Woochan Chang said,

Representative of the beneficiaries, Emem Bassey Nkukut expressed her joy for the KOICA and SKICAN’s intervention to rural community dwellers, adding that the donated items will positively impact the lives of beneficiaries. She urged for more support for the community.

Highlight of the event was the distribution of the donated items to members of the rural community.

The South Korea International Cooperation Association in Nigeria (SKICAN) was established in 2012. Members of the Association are individuals who have over time actively participated in KOICA-sponsored capacity building programs in Korea.
