Nigerian Ebegba Bags Biosafety Award In Nairobi

An award of excellence has been presented to Dr Rufus Ebegba, the immediate past Director-General, DG, of the National Biosafety Management Agency, NBMA, by the Programme for Biosafety System, PBS, in Nairobi at its 20th anniversary.

This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Rufus Ebegba Centre for Leadership and Environmental Sustainability, signed by Ikechukwu Okechukwu, the Head of Media.

PBS is the biosafety support programme of the USAID for developing countries.

“During his time as NBMA D-G between 2015 and 2023, the Agency had a cordial relationship with the PBS, where collaborations were effected on different programmes,” the statement announced

Ebegba, who also spoke on the award, said it was presented at the end of the Africa Biannual Biosciences Communication Symposium on Aug. 24, 2023.

“While Ebegba was given the award of recognition, his efforts were extolled for excellent performance on biosafety, within Nigeria, Africa, and beyond, considering groundbreaking and novel development on biosafety

“His role on biosafety matters at the United Nations Biodiversity Conservation Conference, UN-BCC, of Parties was further eulogised and was recognised as a Biosafety Champion,” the statement explained further.
