The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE says real-time electronic transmission of election results offers several technical advantages that could enhance the integrity, efficiency and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.

The NSE President Ali Alimasuya Rabiu said this in a press statement.

He explained that live electronic transmission of results has several benefits that could enhance the integrity, efficiency and credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.

According to the NSE President, it would “reduce Risk of Manipulation, Fasten Collation and Announcement, Improve Accuracy and Auditability, and improve Cost Savings and Scalability”.

The NSE President said real-time transmission of election results which was successfully implemented in countries like Estonia and India, could address Nigeria’s history of electoral disputes while complying with INEC’s existing tech infrastructure.

He added that the rejection of the proposal to make real-time electronic transmission of election results from polling units to INEC’s IReV portal mandatory by the Senate is not backed by any technically proficient professional organisation such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
