The Nigerian Government is committed to addressing the current challenges of rising food prices, economic hardships, and insecurity affecting Nigerians.”

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi stated this during the annual general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Niger State chapter in North Central Nigeria.

Represented by the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Minister acknowledged the rising cost of staple foods and other essential commodities in the markets, promising that practical steps are being taken to address the situation.

Malagi said that during a meeting with States Governors, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had discouraged the idea of food importation, proposing instead a stakeholder consensus on establishing State Police to combat insecurity.

He said these efforts align with the genuineness of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to lead the nation with a focus on Nigerian constitutional values and addressing citizens’ needs.

The Minister also outlined the achievements of the administration, including efforts to fix the economy, combat insecurity, attract Foreign Direct Investment, and enhance Nigeria’s foreign policy influence.

Recognizing Nigeria’s role in sustaining democracy in the West Africa region through ECOWAS, Malagi stressed the importance of upholding national identity and values.

He also mentioned that President Tinubu’s directive led to the creation of the National Value Charter, redirecting Nigerians to traditional ideals and values, fostering unity and harmony.

The Minister called for collaboration between the Niger State Government, NIPR, and the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to popularise the National Value Charter in the state.

In his speech, former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu commended the NIPR for their contributions to the country’s development, emphasizing the need to uphold core institutional values.

Professor Emmanuel Dan Daura, representing the National President of NIPR, praised practitioners for promoting government development initiatives and pledged continued support in fostering the country’s positive image.

The Chairman of the NIPR Niger State chapter, Alhaji Musa Ladan highlighted the chosen theme and topics of the conference, aiming to bridge the gap between public relations practice and state development initiatives.

The annual general meeting of the NIPR Niger State chapter 2024 featured speakers advocating for enhanced synergy between public relations officers and the government to foster trust and sustainable development.

The Minister was honoured with the Award of Excellence in recognition of his contributions.
