The Nigerian Government has commenced work on the construction of 100 housing units to be delivered across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State,.
The programme, known as the Renewed Hope Social Housing Scheme is aimed at providing affordable and decent housing within a well-planned environment for low-income earners, the homeless and other vulnerable groups.
The programme is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The State’s Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, who led the Federal Housing officials on a tour of the sites, said the visit underlined the seriousness the state government attached to providing accomodations to the people.
The Commissioner said that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was poised to fast track the commencement of the 100 units federal housing project across the state to reduce housing deficit.
He described the project as another landmark achievement of the AbdulRazaq-led administration to foster affordable and accessible accommodation for the people of the state.
Modern Facilities
Dr Ogunsola noted that the project was designed to have all modern facilities including mini supermarkets, school and other social amenities that would attract socio-economic development to the grassroots.
While appreciating the Federal Government for the initiative, the Commissioner stated that the scheme aligns with the state’s efforts to reduce housing challenges for citizens, stressing that the State Government would ensure the project is not delayed.
“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is a promise keeper, which informed the presence of top officials of the Federal Ministry of Housing to begin the construction of the housing units in the state,” he said.
The Director, Urban Design and Development of the Department of Urban and Regional Development in the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Akinola, expressed excitement over the reception at the Loma palace, promising that work would commence at the sites without delay.
Akinola however, solicited the cooperation of stakeholders and communities where the projects are located to ensure a hitch-free and timely completion of the scheme.
According to him, “These housing units would be among the projects commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of his scorecard for the 2027 general elections campaign.”
Responding, the Loma of Babanloma, His Royal Majesty, Oba Usman Ayilara, who received the delegation in his palace, pledged the community’s readiness to support the government in achieving the laudable goal.
Oba Ayilara praised the Governor for his vigorous efforts to deliver requisite infrastructural facilities that will aid the state’s development, especially at the grassroots level.
The delegation for the site inspection included building experts from the state Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the state Geographical Information Service and the state Controller, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Wale Shodehinde, among others.
The tour will continue to other selected Local Government Areas in the state.
