The Nigerian Government has assured the people of Ebonyi State and the South East geopolitical zone of its partnership with Governor Francis Nwifuru to strengthen good governance and deepen democracy.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance during a town hall meeting in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, marking the conclusion of the Citizens’ Engagement Series in Enugu and Ebonyi.

Idris explained that he and Governor Nwifuru had earlier inspected ongoing projects in parts of the state, stressing that the Governor needed full federal backing to succeed.

He reiterated that the Federal Government would always stand by the Governor.

“President Bola Tinubu is proud of Nwifuru. He has also promised to continue to partner with all the state governments, including those in the South East, to deliver the dividends of democracy to their people.

Tinubu just spent two years; by the time he completes his first term, so many projects will be commissioned to the glory of God and for the benefit of people of the South East and Nigeria in general.

Ebonyi is one of the most important states in the South East region of the country; Tinubu loves the people of Ebonyi State so dearly,” Idris said.

The Minister re-emphasised that with the removal of fuel subsidy, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had made it possible for state governments to access more funds for projects and dividends of democracy.

“Before the coming of Tinubu in May 2023, there was not any Federal Government project in Ebonyi, but today, from Enugu to Abakaliki and other states, so many projects have been initiated. Tinubu will continue to support and collaborate with the South East region for development that will provide opportunities and improve the lives of the people,” he added.

Idris highlighted the administration’s achievements across security, agriculture, health, education, road construction, and human capital development.

“Thanks to the Electricity Act signed by President Tinubu at the inception of his administration, 11 states have received regulatory autonomy to oversee the electricity market in their states, from generation to distribution. Two of the 11 states are from the South East. We are delighted that more states, including Ebonyi, are making all the necessary efforts to leverage the provisions of the Electricity Act.

Indeed, we are not resting on our oars. President Tinubu’s vision is to build a $1 trillion economy, reverse the infrastructure deficit gap, achieve food security, improve the living conditions of the masses, and bequeath a prosperous nation to future generations. With your support, this vision will become a reality.

On security matters, even though it is not yet uhuru, the Federal Government will continue to do more and better in that regard,” he added.

During the town hall meeting, residents of Ebonyi praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s legacy projects and other initiatives that they said were positively impacting their lives.

The two-day Citizens’ Engagement Series in the South East geo-political zone was aimed at showcasing ongoing projects and providing an avenue for direct interaction between government officials and citizens.
