The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to its Eight-Point Agenda, focused on creating a resilient, knowledge-driven economy that prioritises local solutions for domestic challenges.

The minister made this statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Grand Challenge Nigeria (GCNg).

“Today’s signing of the MoU marks a significant step forward in promoting innovation and addressing some of Nigeria’s most pressing needs. This partnership with GCNg aligns perfectly with President Bola Tinubu’s Eight-Point Agenda, underscoring our government’s steadfast commitment to driving meaningful change in key areas,” Nnaji said.

He noted that these areas encompass economic growth, human capital development, and social welfare.

The collaboration with GCNg, he explained, highlights the ministry’s commitment to co-chairing the GCNg project and establishing it as a national priority within the ministry’s mission.

The minister also mentioned that a dedicated budget line for the GCNg initiative has already been set up.

“While the initial funding may be modest, we are actively working to secure a more substantial allocation in future budgets. This will reinforce our commitment, alongside the generous four-year start-up funding provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,” he said.

According to Nnaji, their team is fully mobilised and prepared for the national launch of the GCNg project on 18 November, to be led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Nnaji added that the launch would be a milestone event, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of leveraging science and innovation as engines for economic transformation, improved infrastructure, and a better quality of life.
